Athens student associations announce protests over cost of living
Student associations in Athens have announced large-scale protests and an overnight encampment at Syntagma Square scheduled for Tuesday, October 13. The demonstrations aim to protest the rising cost of living and the financial difficulties facing students.
Organizers highlighted several critical issues, including unaffordable rent, high costs for electricity, fuel, and groceries, and increased expenses for university supplies and transportation. They noted that these economic pressures are preventing some students from enrolling in school or forcing others to abandon their studies.
Additionally, the students raised concerns regarding the underfunding of higher education institutions, specifically citing fears that there may be insufficient funds for heating university facilities during the upcoming winter. The protesters are calling for increased social spending and criticizing government priorities.
