Athens to host 2027 Water Polo World Cup Final Eight

World Aquatics has announced that Athens, Greece, will host the Final Eight of the 2027 Water Polo World Cup from February 24 to 28. This tournament carries significant stakes, as the gold medalists from both the men’s and women’s competitions will secure direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The competition will follow a multi-stage format across different locations. The women’s tournament begins in Coimbra, Portugal, in December 2026. The men’s tournament will commence in Istanbul, Turkey, in January 2027. The event marks the first time Athens has hosted a major global water polo tournament since the 2004 Olympic Games.
