Greece and Cyprus implement educational reforms for the 2026-2027 school year

As the 2026-2027 school year approaches, educational authorities in Greece and Cyprus are implementing significant reforms and administrative updates.

In Greece, Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki announced the recruitment of approximately 30,000 substitute teachers, with an additional 6,000 expected by late September. The Ministry is also introducing EduPlan, a digital tool designed to predict educational needs over the next five years. Additionally, the ‘Vision for the New School’ initiative will be presented to discuss future educational models, including the role of artificial intelligence and the new National Baccalaureate.

In Cyprus, Minister of Education Athina Michailidou confirmed that teacher evaluations will commence in September. The Ministry is also focusing on modernizing the teacher recruitment system and enhancing special education and full-day schooling. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education in Cyprus has opened registrations for its adult education centers, which offer various courses with subsidized fees.

Local preparations are also underway, with various Greek municipalities, such as Larissa and Elassona, announcing the start of operations for local nursery schools and cultural festivals for children.
