Athlete dies during eXtremeMan triathlon in Gyékényes

A competitor died during the eXtremeMan international triathlon event held in Gyékényes, Hungary. The incident occurred during the swimming portion of the race when an athlete in a relay team fell ill approximately 100 meters from the shore.

Organizers reported that water rescue teams intervened immediately. Once the individual was brought to the shore, on-site doctors and emergency medical units performed coordinated resuscitation efforts for an extended period. Despite these professional medical interventions, the attempt to save the athlete was unsuccessful.

Gyula Herr, the head organizer, stated that the event's staff detected the incident within seconds and took all possible actions. He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. The triathlon, which also served as national championships for Serbia, Croatia, and Slovakia, continued following the incident.
