Athlete Laura Rodríguez reports sexual assault during training
Athlete Laura Rodríguez has publicly reported being sexually assaulted while training in broad daylight on September 12 in Vidreres. The athlete shared her account via social media to raise awareness and support other women facing similar experiences.
Rodríguez noted that the psychological impact of the attack led her to withdraw from the Bimbo Global Race this past Sunday at the seventh kilometer. She emphasized that the responsibility lies solely with the attacker, stating, “It does not matter what I was doing or how I was dressed, the fault lies solely with the person who decided to assault me.”
The athlete expressed gratitude for the support received from her family, the Vidreres City Council, the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Vidreres Local Police, and the Institut d'Assistència Sanitària de Girona. The Catalan Athletics Federation also expressed its solidarity. Despite the incident, Rodríguez confirmed she is physically well and intends to continue her training and competitive schedule.
