Athletes achieve milestones in regional sports competitions

Mexican judoka Kassandra Espinoza has made a strong start to her Central American tour, reaching the semifinals at the San Salvador Grand Prix. Competing in the -48 kg division, Espinoza defeated Dominican runner-up Estefanía Soriano before falling to Brazil’s Amanda Lima. This performance is part of Espinoza’s qualification process for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games, which relies on her top four scores from eight qualifying tournaments.

In Peru, the Peruvian Olympic Committee has named karateka Alexandra Grande and weightlifter David Bardalez as flag bearers for the XIII South American Games in Santa Fe 2026. Grande, a two-time Pan American Games champion, and Bardalez, a Pan American bronze medalist, will represent Team Peru during the event scheduled for September 12–26, 2026.
