Athletes Fabian Wiede and Christoph Baumgartner approach injury comebacks

Several professional athletes in Germany are nearing returns to competition following significant injuries.

Handball player Fabian Wiede is approaching a comeback with Füchsen Berlin after suffering a torn cruciate ligament in October 2025 during a Champions League match against One Veszprem HC. Trainer Nicolej Krickau reported that the 32-year-old backcourt player has resumed training with the ball and is showing positive progress in strength and physical sessions, though he is not yet ready for full-contact play or jumping.

In football, RB Leipzig top scorer Christoph Baumgartner has returned to training 128 days after suffering a thigh tendon tear in June. The 27-year-old Austrian player stated he is now able to train with increased volume and intensity. While he remains sidelined from full match play, he has been participating in team meetings to support the squad.
