Athletes from Ungheni excel at Chisinau Marathon

Athletes from Ungheni achieved notable success at the Chisinau Marathon. Ecaterina Cernat secured second place in the 5 km race, while Irina Manic took second place in the 10 km distance. A large group of juniors and children from the region also participated, with several earning free entry into the Elite category due to previous performances.

Looking ahead, Ecaterina Cernat and coach Mihai Grosu are preparing for the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen. Their training is supported by the Athletics Federation, the Ministry of Education and Research, and the Ungheni City Hall.

In Sfântu Gheorghe, the Román Vilmos municipal swimming pool is reopening on September 28. The local administration is continuing to fund the ‘Sports Initiation’ program, providing free sports education for preschoolers and primary school students for the 2026/27 school year. Despite high maintenance costs of approximately 120,000 lei per month, the municipality has committed to maintaining these services to support children's health.
