Athletes prepare for 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Athletes from Taiwan and Hong Kong are entering the final stages of preparation for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Kuan-ling, aged 21, aims to improve upon her fourth-place finish at the Hangzhou Games. Having secured gold at both the Asian and World Championships, Chen will compete in the 53kg category. She noted that her goal is to “be closer to a medal” and mentioned using music from Taiwanese indie bands to manage training stress.

In Hong Kong, karateka Wong Cheuk-lei is preparing for her first Asian Games appearance at age 33. After missing the previous games due to injury and scheduling issues, Wong secured her spot by winning gold at the 2024 Asian Karate Championships. She views her extensive competitive experience and maturity as a strategic advantage over younger competitors.
