Athletes use sports to promote organ donation awareness

Athletes are utilizing sports to promote organ and tissue donation awareness through various regional initiatives.

In Peru, five representatives from the Asociación Peruana de Deportistas Trasplantados (APDT) will compete in the first Pan American Transplant Games in Maldonado, Uruguay, scheduled for October 21–25, 2026. The delegation aims to share stories of recovery and demonstrate that individuals who have received solid organ transplants can lead active lives through physical activity and medical follow-up.

In Chile, the “Partidos por la vida” (Matches for Life) initiative will hold a series of football matches at the Estadio Fiscal de Talca on October 15. The event, involving the Instituto Nacional de Deportes (IND) and the Corporación Desavida, uses sports to spread a message of hope and emphasize the importance of organ donation within the community.
