Athletic Bilbao striker Gorka Guruzeta ruled out for season

Athletic Bilbao striker Gorka Guruzeta will miss the remainder of the season following a serious knee injury. Medical tests confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, sustained during a recent match against Valencia.

The 30-year-old forward is expected to undergo surgery and will require between six and eight months of recovery. This injury mirrors a similar setback Guruzeta faced in 2019 involving his right knee.

The loss exacerbates attacking difficulties for coach Edin Terzić, as the team has struggled to score goals in recent La Liga fixtures. Guruzeta's absence adds to an injury list that already includes attacking midfielder Oihan Sancet and winger Nico Williams, though the latter's availability for upcoming matches remains under evaluation.

Terzić is considering several options to address the shortage of offensive depth, including utilizing Iñaki Williams, Maroan, or promoting players from the Bilbao Athletic reserve team.
