In Mexico, the Mexico City Marathon marks its 43rd anniversary. Founded by Sandalio Sainz de la Maza, the first race took place on September 25, 1983, with approximately 7,500 runners. Sainz de la Maza, known as the ‘Titan of Sport,’ was instrumental in promoting sports in public spaces and increasing female participation in athletics. His legacy also includes contributions to chess and efforts to bring Formula 1 back to the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.
