Italy achieves diverse sporting successes in padel, basketball, and swimming

Italy has achieved various successes across multiple sporting disciplines. In padel at the Mediterranean Games, the Italian team secured four medals: two silvers in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles, and two bronzes in the men’s and women’s doubles.

In basketball, the Italian women’s team secured a 75-72 victory against France in Paris during the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. Conversely, the men’s basketball team suffered a defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina, leaving them with a 5-2 record in their group.

In swimming, Benedetta Pilato leads the 2026-26 short course season rankings for the women’s 50m breaststroke with a time of 29.26 seconds. Meanwhile, in canoeing, Italian athletes are competing in the 2026 Sprint Canoe World Championships in Poznan, Poland, participating in various K1, C1, and KL categories.

Additionally, the 2026 US Open tennis tournament will be broadcast in Italy via SuperTennis and Sky Sport, featuring seven Italian players in the men’s main draw, including Flavio Cobolli and Lorenzo Musetti.
