Oakland Athletics GM David Forst Parts Ways with Team
The Oakland Athletics announced on Friday that general manager David Forst will leave the organization after a 27‑year tenure, ending his stint as GM that began in 2015. The separation was described as mutual, with owner John Fisher praising Forst’s “leadership, dedication and commitment” that helped shape the club’s baseball operations.
Assistant general manager Dan Feinstein will serve as interim GM for the remainder of the 2026 season while the team searches for a permanent replacement. The decision comes as the franchise, currently 45‑70 and on pace for a fifth straight losing season, prepares for its planned relocation to Las Vegas in 2028. Under Forst, the Athletics reached the postseason three consecutive years (2018‑2020) and won the American League West in the pandemic‑shortened 2020 season, but have since entered a rebuilding phase marked by the departure of key players such as Matt Olson and Matt Chapman.
Forst, who joined the A’s as a scout in 2000 and later served as Billy Beane’s assistant GM, said it was an honor to spend his career with the organization. The move signals a new chapter for the club as it navigates on‑field struggles and the upcoming relocation.
