Athman and Brus named collegiate players of the week

Ava Athman, a senior volleyball player at Bemidji State University, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Offensive Player of the Week. Athman led the conference in kills per set (4.83) and points per set (5.42) during a week where the Beavers went 2-1. Notably, she set a school record for most kills in a three-set match with 19 against the University of Minnesota Crookston.

In football, Northwestern linebacker Braydon Brus has earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors following a performance in a 34-13 victory over Penn State. Brus recorded nine tackles, one sack, one interception, and one pass breakup. He is the first Northwestern player to receive this specific conference honor since 2023 and the first Big Ten player in ten years to record that specific statistical combination in a single conference game.
