Athom expands Homey Energy with solar forecasting and tariff tools
Athom has expanded its Homey Energy platform with two new features designed to improve solar power management: solar forecasting and feed-in tariff calculation.
The solar forecasting tool provides estimates for electricity production for the current and following day. Using local weather data, panel configurations, and historical yield values, the system generates predictions for expected daily production in kWh, peak power in Watts, and specific timeframes for maximum solar output. These data points can be integrated into smart home automations, allowing users to schedule high-energy tasks—such as running dishwashers, charging e-bikes, or operating air conditioning—during peak production hours to maximize self-consumption.
The second feature calculates the financial value of surplus solar energy fed back into the grid. Users can input fixed feed-in prices from their energy providers, or the system can update values based on current market prices for those with dynamic tariffs.
Athom, the developer of the Homey smart home platform, was acquired by LG Electronics in 2024. While Homey will remain an independent product, it is slated for future integration into the LG smart home ecosystem. The new energy features are available on Homey Pro (2023–2026 generations), Homey Pro mini, and Homey Self-Hosted Servers.
