Atiba University banned from offering law programs for 10 years

The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has imposed a 10-year moratorium on Atiba University in Oyo State, prohibiting the institution from offering law programs. The decision follows findings that the university’s facilities were “inappropriate and inadequate” and that it had violated admission policies by admitting and graduating students without the necessary regulatory approval.

During its third-quarter hybrid meeting held in Abuja, the Council also declined to grant approval to Maranatha University in Lagos State due to identified deficiencies.

Conversely, the CLE approved five universities to begin offering law programs starting from the 2026/2027 academic session. These institutions include Amadeus University, Akwa Ibom State University, European University of Nigeria, Oduduwa University, and Peaceland University. Each approved university has been granted an initial intake quota of 50 students for its 100-level class.
