Brazil reports multiple incidents of animal cruelty and neglect
Several incidents of animal cruelty and related disturbances have been reported across various Brazilian regions.
In Atibaia, a man was arrested after being filmed hitting a small dog with a piece of wood in a public area. The animal suffered severe ocular injuries and is receiving intensive veterinary care. The suspect admitted to the assault but claimed self-defense, alleging the dog was aggressive.
In Nova Iguaçu, authorities rescued a Shih-tzu from a situation of neglect in the Caonze neighborhood. Following resident reports, municipal teams found the dog without food or water. The animal has been moved to a temporary home and will be made available for adoption through a municipal campaign.
In Vilhena, a large dog escaped a residence and killed a Yorkshire terrier on a public avenue. The owner of the large dog was identified and signed a commitment to appear in court to answer for the incident after the victim's owner filed criminal charges.
