Atiku Abubakar criticizes Tinubu administration over economic hardship and US forfeiture

Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has launched several criticisms against the administration of President Bola Tinubu, focusing on economic hardship and political accountability.

Atiku expressed deep concern over reports that young Nigerians are allegedly selling their kidneys for as little as ₦1.7 million to cope with the rising cost of living. He attributed this desperation to the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, citing increased costs for food, transport, rent, and electricity.

In a separate political dispute, Atiku challenged the Presidency to explain a reported $460,000 forfeiture involving President Tinubu in the United States. He accused the administration of attempting to deflect from this issue by scrutinizing his own engagement of a US lobbying firm, which Atiku maintains was legally registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Additionally, Atiku’s camp has questioned the equal application of anti-corruption laws, contrasting the continued detention of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai with the freedom of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello. Atiku also defended his decision to establish the American University of Nigeria in Yola as an investment in regional education rather than for personal profit.
