Atiku Abubakar demands NNPC transparency over ₦11.2tn receivables

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has raised several critical issues regarding Nigerian governance and security. He is demanding transparency from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) regarding ₦11.2 trillion in receivables from the Federation recorded in its 2025 accounts. Atiku noted that this figure is more than triple the ₦3.1 trillion defense allocation for the same period and requested a breakdown of how much was spent on pipeline surveillance, who the beneficiaries were, and what results were achieved.

Additionally, Atiku criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to address rising insecurity, citing the abduction of 20 travelers in Imo State and over 70 students in Borno State. He also expressed concern for the welfare of Nigerian teachers, arguing that the rising cost of living and transport makes their profession increasingly difficult. He suggested that the President's inability to name former teachers or classmates demonstrates a disconnect from the struggles of educators.

In a separate political development, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum denied allegations made by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council that he ordered the arrest of 'Tinubu Must Go' protesters. Zulum’s spokesperson clarified that the Governor’s remarks were directed at combating rising crime and social vices in the state, rather than suppressing political dissent.
