Atiku Abubakar Criticizes Tinubu on Insecurity, Hunger, and El‑Rufai Bail

Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar has launched a string of attacks on President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He condemned the recent Plateau State killings, saying security forces were focusing on prosecuting activist Omoyele Sowore while “insecurity rules the land”. Atiku warned that the government’s attempts to blame the media for insecurity and economic hardship ignore the reality that families are skipping meals, abandoning school and health care, and that “hunger has become one of the defining features of the Tinubu administration”.

Atiku also criticised the bail conditions imposed on former Kaduna Governor Nasir El‑Rufai, describing them as “practically impossible” and tantamount to punitive detention. He quoted the court’s stance: “The law is settled that an accused person remains innocent until proven guilty. Bail exists to preserve that constitutional protection.” The Federal High Court has fixed 1 July 2026 to rule on El‑Rufai’s bail applications. Atiku urged the judiciary to ensure bail serves its purpose rather than become a de‑facto punishment.
