Atiku and Obi reject single-candidate plan for 2027

Political figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have rejected a proposal by the G-100 political pressure group to unite under a single presidential candidate for the 2027 election. While both camps expressed support for increased collaboration among opposition forces to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), neither party is currently willing to withdraw their individual presidential ambitions for a consensus arrangement.

Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, stated that the former vice-president is not interested in further discussions regarding a unified summit, noting that Atiku has presented his policy proposals and will let the electorate decide the 2027 outcome.

Additionally, Atiku Abubakar criticized the Tinubu administration, alleging that unchecked government borrowing has contributed to an increase in poverty levels across Nigeria. He called for greater accountability regarding the nation's rising debt profile, warning of the long-term risks to future generations.
