Atina, Italy hang glider dies after hitting high‑voltage power lines

A hang‑glider pilot was killed on Friday afternoon near Atina in the province of Frosinone after his aircraft struck medium‑voltage power lines. The pilot, a resident of the region (reports give his age as either 58 or about 40), had taken off from the popular free‑flight site at San Donato Val di Comino. A sudden thunderstorm is believed to have caused loss of control, causing the glider to collide with the lines at roughly 15 m height. Enel technicians cut the electricity, allowing the Vigili del Fuoco and Carabinieri to free the glider and recover the body. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from electrocution. The Carabinieri are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
