Atiye Kurtoğlu Celebrates 100th Birthday in Kastamonu Village
Atiye Kurtoğlu, a 100‑year‑old resident of Üyücek village in the central district of Kastamonu, Turkey, was honored with a traditional birthday ceremony. Village mayor Atıf Kapuci organized the event, which featured drum and zurna music as family members—children, grandchildren and great‑grandchildren—gathered to cut the centennial cake and blow out the candles.
Kurtoğlu married at age 15 and has spent 85 years with her husband Hüseyin Kurtoğlu. Grandson Burhan Kurtoğlu, 53, expressed pride in his grandmother’s longevity, noting that she can no longer walk or hear well but remains a beloved figure in the community. The celebration was described by the mayor as a tribute to the village’s oldest resident and a demonstration of respect for elders.
