Atizapán de Zaragoza launches family aid and weapons‑surrender drive
The municipal government of Atizapán de Zaragoza announced the second distribution of its Salario Familiar program, providing 150 million pesos to about 20,000 families. The aid is intended to strengthen household economies and supports other services such as community kitchens, childcare centers and senior day‑care facilities.
Mayor Pedro Rodríguez Villegas, together with Paty Arévalo, President of the Municipal DIF, also inaugurated the 2026 "Sí al Desarme, Sí a la Paz" weapons‑surrender campaign. Residents can voluntarily hand over firearms, ammunition and explosives in exchange for cash incentives, aiming to lower the perception of insecurity, which the municipality reports has fallen to 45.5 % – the lowest level recorded in the national urban security survey.
Both initiatives are presented as part of a broader strategy to improve public safety, water supply infrastructure and overall quality of life for the municipality’s residents.
