Atizapán de Zaragoza receives credit rating upgrade to AA
Fitch Ratings has upgraded the credit rating of Atizapán de Zaragoza from ‘AA-(mex)’ to ‘AA(mex)’ with a stable outlook. This marks the fourth consecutive year of financial evaluation improvements for the municipality.
The upgrade is attributed to the administration of Pedro Rodríguez Villegas, specifically citing financial discipline, growing operating balances, strong liquidity, and an increased capacity to service debt. Municipal revenues saw a real growth of 7.6 percent during 2025, driven by local collection trends and incentive programs for property tax payments.
Atizapán maintained an average operating margin of 17 percent over the last five years, which exceeds the 12 percent median for municipalities evaluated by Fitch Ratings. Additionally, the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público classified the municipality's debt as sustainable through the first half of 2026, and the local government does not intend to seek new short-term or long-term financing.
