ATJ Lučko celebrates 36th anniversary of elite police unit

The Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATJ) Lučko celebrated its 36th anniversary with a ceremony attended by high-ranking police officials and families of fallen members. During the event, Croatian Interior Minister Davor Božinović described the elite unit as the ‘first shield of the homeland,’ highlighting its historical role in protecting national sovereignty and internal peace.

Minister Božinović noted the unit's extensive combat history, including participation in operations such as Bljesak and Oluja. He emphasized that the unit has evolved into a modern, highly trained force comparable to leading international anti-terrorist groups. This professional standing is reflected in its membership in the Atlas association of anti-terrorist units and its recent recognition during a military parade in Paris, where it was positioned immediately following the French armed forces.

To maintain this level of readiness, approximately 120 million euros have been invested in the special police to ensure state-of-the-art equipment. The unit continues to utilize rigorous selection processes and demanding training to prepare members for high-stakes decision-making in critical situations.
