Atlanta Braves face roster shifts and series losses in MLB

The Atlanta Braves are facing significant roster shifts and competitive challenges. The team recently designated pitcher Elieser Hernández for assignment, a move that has occurred three times for him in seven weeks, while activating Reynaldo López from the injured list. Additionally, the Braves placed Bryce Elder on the 15-day injured list following a knee surgery.

On the field, the Braves have struggled in recent series. They suffered a series loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, including a 7-2 defeat where the Rays' offense dominated. In a separate matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies, pitcher Jesús Luzardo delivered a historic performance, throwing a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to secure a win for Philadelphia.

Offseason reports also suggest organizational shifts regarding pitcher Spencer Strider. The Braves reportedly attempted to include Strider in a contract-swap trade for Jacob deGrom before the 2026 trade deadline, though the deal was blocked by deGrom’s no-trade clause. Meanwhile, Phillies hitter Kyle Schwarber continues a strong season, recently hitting his 44th home run of the year during a win over the Houston Astros.
