Atlanta Braves eye Cy‑Young trade while veteran Carlos Carrasco opts for free agency

The Atlanta Braves are reported to be weighing a trade for a $32 million, two‑time Cy Young winner to strengthen a depleted starting rotation. Analysts suggest the club could give up top prospects such as JR Ritchie and a No. 1 prospect in exchange for the seasoned pitcher, with interest from teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres. Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos said, “We’ve explored the starting rotation, adding and getting some type of starter, whether that’s a trade or signing. We’d like for it to be someone impactful, someone we think can start a playoff game.”

In a separate roster move, 39‑year‑old right‑hander Carlos Carrasco, a 17‑year MLB veteran, was outrighted off the 40‑man roster, cleared waivers and elected free agency rather than accept a minor‑league assignment. Carrasco, who has been designated for assignment by Atlanta several times, posted a 2.45 ERA in 7.1 innings this season and has previously pitched for the Cleveland Guardians, New York Mets and Yankees.
