Atlanta Braves pitchers Schwellenbach and Waldrep to undergo elbow surgeries

The Atlanta Braves face significant setbacks in their pitching rotation as right-handers Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep are set to undergo elbow surgeries.

Schwellenbach will undergo surgery to address an elbow fracture, a recurring issue that has sidelined him since last year. He is currently on the 60-day injured list, and the procedure is expected to be season-ending. Waldrep is scheduled for Tommy John surgery, a procedure that will likely keep him out for the duration of the 2027 season.

These updates add to a growing list of injuries for the Braves' rotation. Spencer Strider has also been struggling with injuries, including an oblique issue and right elbow inflammation. Meanwhile, Reynaldo López is progressing through a rehab assignment following a knee injury and is expected to increase his pitch count in upcoming appearances.
