Atlanta daycare measles outbreak reaches 10 cases

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed two additional measles cases linked to an outbreak at a metro Atlanta daycare, bringing the total number of cases at that location to 10. The children who tested positive were either unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.

With these latest cases, Georgia has reported a total of 16 confirmed measles cases in 2026. This outbreak occurs amid a national resurgence of the virus; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported more than 3,294 confirmed cases in the United States as of September 10, marking the highest numbers since 1991.

Health officials advise that anyone suspecting exposure should contact a healthcare provider immediately before visiting a clinic to prevent further spread. The DPH emphasizes that the MMR vaccine is safe and effective in preventing the disease.
