Atlanta detective accused of stealing beer and fleeing in undercover vehicle

Ronald Sluss, an off-duty detective with the Atlanta Police Department, has been accused of stealing a 12-pack of SweetWater IPA beer from a Publix grocery store in Canton on September 16.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, surveillance footage captured Sluss walking through the checkout area with the beer while appearing to hold a receipt. The store manager became suspicious and photographed Sluss’s vehicle in the parking lot after he left without paying. Authorities later identified the vehicle as an undercover police truck belonging to the Atlanta Police Department.

Sluss was arrested at his home, where deputies reported a “strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath.” Investigators also noted that the undercover vehicle smelled strongly of alcohol.
