Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries set to face off in WNBA Finals
The Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries will face each other in the WNBA Finals, both seeking their first franchise championship. The series is scheduled to begin on October 17.
The Atlanta Dream secured their spot by sweeping the New York Liberty 3-0 in the semifinals. Led by Defensive Player of the Year Angel Reese, who averaged over 20 points during the series, and Rhyne Howard, the Dream's victory was sealed with an 85-83 win in Game 3. This marks Atlanta's first Finals appearance since 2013.
The Golden State Valkyries reached the Finals by sweeping the defending champion Las Vegas Aces 3-0. In a decisive Game 3, the Valkyries overcame an overtime challenge to win 87-77, fueled by Gabby Williams and a deep bench. The Valkyries' achievement is notable as they reached the championship series in only their second season of existence, making them the quickest expansion franchise to do so.
