WNBA names All-Star Game reserves; Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray among selections

The WNBA announced the 12 reserves for the July 25 All-Star Game in Chicago. Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese, along with teammates Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray, were selected as reserves after Reese publicly criticized the starter snubs of her teammates. The Dream trio will play together, marking the fourth time Atlanta has three All-Stars.

Marina Mabrey of the expansion Toronto Tempo earned her first All-Star appearance, having tied the league’s single‑game record with a 53‑point performance. Seattle Storm rookie Dominique Malonga also makes her All-Star debut. Nneka Ogwumike tied the second‑most All‑Star appearances in league history with 11, joining Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon, who will serve as honorary general managers for the team drafts.

Other reserves include Washington’s Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, New York’s Jonquel Jones, Minnesota’s Courtney Williams, Las Vegas’s Jackie Young, and Los Angeles’s Kelsey Plum, who is dealing with a leg injury and may be replaced by Commissioner Cathy Engelbert if she cannot play. Coaches selected the reserves and were prohibited from voting for their own players. The announcement follows Reese’s earlier comments that the Dream’s strong season deserved greater recognition in the All‑Star starter lineup.
