Atlanta Falcons finalize roster amid quarterback uncertainty
The Atlanta Falcons have finalized their initial 53-man roster, though the team has yet to name a starting quarterback for the upcoming regular season opener against Pittsburgh. During the preseason finale in Miami, Tua Tagovailoa started the game, completing seven of eight passes for 95 yards and leading three first-quarter drives to touchdowns. Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski praised Tagovailoa’s performance and professionalism, despite a fumble caused by a center-quarterback exchange.
The roster decisions included cutting 37 players, with 16 potentially joining the practice squad. Notable moves included acquiring Gervon Dexter Sr. from the Chicago Bears, which resulted in the departure of Clark Phillips III. While the secondary saw depth players like C.J. Henderson and Malcom DeWalt IV secure roles, the lack of certainty at the quarterback position remains a primary focus for the team as the season approaches. Michael Penix Jr. has recently received clearance to participate in drills following an ACL injury.
