Atlanta Hawks eye Peyton Watson in free‑agency chase

Free‑agent forward Peyton Watson, currently protected by the Denver Nuggets, has attracted interest from the Atlanta Hawks. With limited salary‑cap space league‑wide, a direct offer is unlikely, prompting speculation that a sign‑and‑trade could be used. The Nuggets would demand a steep price, comparable to the Jazz's deal for Walker Kessler – two unprotected first‑round picks and two first‑round swap rights – to release Watson.

The Hawks are also evaluating their playoff outlook after a busy offseason that left them with a 16‑player roster. While they retained key pieces and made draft moves, the Eastern Conference has strengthened, with rivals such as the Knicks, 76ers, Heat, Pacers and Detroit improving. Atlanta will rely on internal development from players like Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Onyeka Okongwu, but will need to navigate a tighter competition to secure a postseason berth.
