Atlanta Hawks prepare for 2026-27 NBA season with revamped roster

The Atlanta Hawks enter the 2026-27 NBA season following a period of significant roster restructuring. After trading former franchise cornerstone Trae Young to the Washington Wizards, the team transitioned toward a more balanced offensive approach under head coach Quin Snyder.

Key offseason additions include Luguentz Dort, Aaron Wiggins, and Dorian Finney-Smith, many of whom bring championship experience from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The roster also features veteran CJ McCollum and returning core players such as Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Johnson, coming off an All-Star season, is expected to serve as a central figure for the franchise.

The Hawks are scheduled to open their season on October 21 against the Orlando Magic. Following a first-round playoff exit against the New York Knicks last season, the organization aims to leverage its increased depth and improved defensive metrics to compete in the Eastern Conference.
