Atlanta Hawks trade Buddy Hield and Ryan Nembhard to Charlotte Hornets

The Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets have finalized a trade involving veteran forward Dorian Finney-Smith, guard Buddy Hield, and guard Ryan Nembhard. Under the terms of the deal, Atlanta receives Finney-Smith, a versatile ‘3 and D’ specialist, in exchange for Hield, Nembhard, and cash considerations.

For the Hawks, the move aims to bolster perimeter defense and wing depth. The trade also helps manage their roster size and salary cap, creating a trade exception of approximately $2.1 million. For the Hornets, the acquisition of Hield provides high-volume three-point shooting to support a young core featuring LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.

Reports indicate that Charlotte intends to waive Ryan Nembhard to comply with roster limits, as the team currently holds 18 players on standard contracts and must reduce that number to 15 before the season begins. Nembhard, a 23-year-old Canadian guard, has drawn interest from several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, should he become available.
