Atlanta Hawks waive Devin Carter amid roster restructuring

The Atlanta Hawks have waived point guard Devin Carter as part of an effort to streamline their roster. The move aims to reduce the number of guaranteed contracts to a target of 15, supplemented by three two-way contracts, ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Carter, a former lottery pick who played for Providence College, was recently acquired by Atlanta in a deal involving a 2033 second-round draft pick. While his offensive statistics were modest, averaging 6.4 points per game during his first two seasons, he was noted for his defensive energy and toughness.

Following his release, reports indicate the Boston Celtics have expressed interest in signing Carter. If he remains unclaimed in free agency, he could provide a low-risk defensive option for Boston's backcourt.
