Atlanta honors Claressa Shields with appreciation day

The Atlanta City Council has officially proclaimed August 15 as ‘Claressa GWOAT Shields Appreciation Day’ to honor the professional boxer. The recognition comes ahead of her upcoming title fight against WBC and WBA women's middleweight champion Kaye Scott.

Atlanta City Council member Wayne Martin stated that the city recognizes Shields as an Atlanta resident whose accomplishments contribute to the city's legacy of athletic excellence and Black achievements. The proclamation also recognized Wynn Records and Salita Promotions.
