Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens sparks backlash after social media spat with constituent
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has drawn criticism following a social media exchange with a constituent regarding city policy. The dispute began after Dickens posted a video of a meeting with the Nature Girlz, a Black women’s walking group.
In response to the post, Atlanta resident Jonathan Brimer urged the mayor to focus on pedestrian-centric designs for Peachtree Street and the completion of the Beltline rail projects funded by MARTA sales taxes. Dickens responded to the comment by telling Brimer to ‘shut up and respect our legacy black women residents that made this city that you get to enjoy freely.’
Brimer, a local business owner, criticized the mayor’s response, citing a lack of leadership, transparency, and willingness to engage with public criticism regarding voter mandates.
