Atlanta Public Schools Kick Off 2026‑27 Year with District‑wide Back‑to‑School Events

Metro Atlanta’s public school districts will open for the 2026‑27 academic year on Monday, August 3, with Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County, DeKalb County, Clayton County, Cobb County, City Schools of Decatur and several others welcoming hundreds of thousands of students. Districts are holding staggered open‑house events and an annual Back‑to‑School Bash on August 1 at the Georgia World Congress Center, offering enrollment assistance, transportation information and community resources. APS has also expanded school security by adding tactical and drone teams to its police force.

Gwinnett County Public Schools, the state’s largest district, begins classes on Wednesday, August 5, while Forsyth County starts on August 6. Governor Brian Kemp’s office has directed state agencies to freeze spending levels as they prepare next year’s budget proposals.
