Atlanta ranks 12th most rodent-infested city in US
Atlanta has been ranked as the 12th most rodent-infested city in the United States according to an annual report by pest control company Terminix. The ranking is based on customer service requests across more than 300 branches. While Atlanta dropped two spots from the previous year, experts note that falling temperatures and dry conditions drive rodents indoors in search of food and shelter.
To prevent infestations during the autumn months, experts recommend several preventative measures. Homeowners are advised to seal gaps in foundations, roofs, and utility lines using steel wool and caulk. Additionally, clearing fallen fruit from gardens is a critical step, as overripe produce like apples, pears, and plums serves as an easy food source for rats and mice. Other tips include keeping trash cans tightly lidded, storing dry food in hard-sided containers, and removing bird food from open areas.
