Atlanta shooting leaves one dead and triggers school lockdowns

A fatal shooting at the Country Oak Apartments in southwest Atlanta has left one person dead. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the 320 block of Fairburn Road SW in the Fairburn Mays neighborhood.

As a precaution due to the heavy police presence, three local schools—Benjamin E. Mays High School, West Manor Elementary School, and Jean Childs Young Middle School—were placed under temporary external confinement. Atlanta Public Schools confirmed that students and staff remained safe during the emergency, and the restrictions were later lifted.

Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances of the shooting to identify those involved. While initial reports identified the victim as 25-year-old Victor Gray, official confirmation of the identity is still pending.
