Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium to host eight 2026 World Cup matches, including a semifinal

Mercedes‑Benz Stadium in Atlanta, renamed Atlanta Stadium for FIFA’s 2026 World Cup, will host eight tournament matches. The venue will see five group‑stage games, a round‑of‑16 match, a quarter‑final (octavos) and a semifinal. Its 75,000‑plus capacity, retractable petal‑shaped roof, climate‑control system and a 360‑degree “Halo Board” screen make it one of the most advanced stadiums in the United States. The Spanish national team’s opening two group matches – against Cabo Verde on 15 June and Saudi Arabia on 18 June – will be played there, and the stadium could also host a Spanish‑involved semifinal on 15 July. Opened in 2017 with a €2 billion investment, the stadium is home to MLS side Atlanta United and NFL’s Falcons. Its design and technology are highlighted as a showcase for the summer‑heat conditions expected during the tournament.
