Atlanta's Red Bull Showrun brings Formula 1 cars to Hank Aaron Drive

The city of Atlanta approved a Red Bull Showrun Formula 1 showcase for Saturday, Aug 1, closing a section of Hank Aaron Drive between Fulton Street and Georgia Avenue from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Professional drivers will perform burnouts, high‑speed demonstrations and “donuts” in designated zones, featuring Oracle Red Bull Racing, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, on‑ and off‑road Ford vehicles and a special appearance by Atlanta native Killer Mike. The event was green‑lit despite objections from MARTA, whose Rapid‑A bus line runs under construction, and despite two votes by the Neighborhood Planning Unit’s residents against it.

On the same day, Atlanta police arrested a 17‑year‑old suspect after a 16‑year‑old girl was fatally shot in Piedmont Park. A separate shooting on Peachtree Street in Midtown left one person wounded and shattered windows at several businesses.

The U.S. Justice Department announced it will drop vandalism charges against Olympian David Hearn, saying damage to the Reflecting Pool was caused by a contractor’s faulty installation.

In Spain, tens of thousands of migrants who entered the Ceuta enclave from Morocco voluntarily returned after chaos, while at least 57 deaths have been reported, sparking a humanitarian crisis.
