Atlante draws 1-1 with América in first home match of Apertura 2026
Atlante returned to Liga MX as the home side at the Estadio Azteca (re‑branded Banorte) for the first time since 2007, attracting a crowd of around 70,000 fans. In the Apertura 2026 Jornada 2 clash, América took the lead in the 21st minute when Cristian Borja headed in a cross from Isaías Violante. Atlante equalised in the second half when Eugenio Pizzuto finished a precise pass from Ecuadorian winger Jhojan Julio at the 65th minute. The match, overseen by manager Miguel Herrera, gave Atlante its first point of the tournament after an opening‑day loss to Necaxa, while América also collected a point.
The draw is seen as a symbolic milestone for the Potros de Hierro, marking their re‑entry into Mexico’s top flight after 12‑plus years away and restoring a historic rivalry at the iconic venue.
