Atlantic Canada faces heavy rain and flooding risks

Atlantic Canada is facing a period of widespread heavy rainfall through the Labour Day long weekend. A stagnant weather pattern is expected to bring significant precipitation to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.

Rainfall totals could reach between 75 mm and 100 mm in Prince Edward Island, with even higher amounts possible in parts of eastern Nova Scotia. The Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland may see accumulations of 30 mm to 50 mm.

Due to the intensity of the rain, there is a risk of flooding in areas near the Northumberland Strait in New Brunswick, eastern Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Authorities have also warned of potential road washouts and coastal erosion caused by gusty winds and rough surf.
