Atlantic Canada needs unified economy, says former premier
Former New Brunswick Premier Frank McKenna has called for the creation of a single, unified economy across Atlantic Canada to address what he describes as a “burning platform.” Speaking on the implications of a 181-page report by the Atlantic Economic Panel, McKenna suggested that the four provinces could become among the most prosperous in the country if they leverage their collective resources and talent.
McKenna noted that provincial leaders face significant pressure to implement these changes due to persistent budget deficits and the economic impacts of trade tensions between Canada and the United States. He characterized the report as a “gift” to provincial premiers, stating that the responsibility now lies with them to act on the recommendations to ensure regional economic stability.
