Atlantic cyclone activity set to increase in August, Mexico faces no immediate risk

Meteorologists expect the probability of tropical cyclone formation in the Atlantic Ocean to rise from the second half of August, with a higher chance in September, although no extraordinary season is forecast. In the Pacific, activity remains dominant with several named storms, while the Atlantic has produced only two tropical storms so far and none have threatened Mexico.

Jessica Luna Lagunes, head of the Hydrometeorology Department at Mexico's National Water Commission (Conagua), and NOAA both indicate that current models do not show significant threats to the Gulf of Mexico or the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Rubén García, a meteorologist, notes a modest 15‑20% chance of a tropical depression developing between the Caribbean and Africa in early August, but stresses that these are preliminary projections and that the season is expected to be less active than usual.
